About us

Atípica Films is an independent audiovisual production company founded in 2009 by José Antonio Félez and Cristina Sutherland, with a mission to create innovative, high-quality, and captivating content for diverse audiences. In recent years, Alberto Félez joined the team, bringing over a decade of experience at The Walt Disney Company, taking on roles as producer and executive producer.

Since its inception, Atípica Films has had the privilege of collaborating with some of Spain’s most prominent filmmakers, including Alberto Rodríguez, Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, and Rafael Cobos, among others.

The company has produced successful films such as Prison 77, Marshland, Cousinhood, Unit 7, Family United, Smoke and Mirrors, and Seventeen.

In television, Atípica has produced two seasons of The snow girl, a series based on the bestselling novel by Javier Castillo. Since its premiere, the show became number 1 on Netflix in Spain, with season 1 reaching number 1 globally. The recently released season 2 (premiered on January 31, 2025) entered the Top 10 worldwide during its first weekend.

Other notable shows under the Atípica label include:

  • The girls at the back, the first series written and directed by Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, available on Netflix.

  • The left-handed son, a series written by Rafael Cobos, inspired by Rosario Izquierdo’s novel, and directed by Cobos and Paco Baños. It is available on Movistar Plus+ and won the Best Mini Series award at the Cannes Series Festival.

  • The plague (seasons 1 and 2), Movistar Plus+’s first premium series, created by Alberto Rodríguez and Rafael Cobos. This 16th-century thriller immerses viewers in the unknown workings of Seville, one of the most important cities of the time, and serves as a metaphor for crises, both past and future.

At present, we are filming El cuco de cristal, a series based on Javier Castillo’s novel, directed by Laura Alvea and Juan Miguel del Castillo, with an adaptation by screenwriters Jesús Mesas Silva and Javier Andrés Roig. The series will be available on Netflix.
